Dealing with Uncomfortalbe Shoes: Mission Possible?
By vily_far
Wearing uncomfortable shoes often leads to problem and permanent damage. Women are especially known for wearing tight shoes, which however have the capacity of making the leg look finer and more elegant.
If you wear uncomfortable shoes over long periods of time, you could end up having bone deformations, callosities, nail problems and wounds.
Special attention is needed, whenever a set of uncomfortable shoes is purchased. Some strategies can be used to deal with the problem and to ensure your comfort and feet health.
Before purchasing a pair of shoes, make sure that you feel comfortable. Try both shoes, walk around and see what it feels like. Avoid purchasing uncomfortable shoes, since these could cause serious health problems. Yet, if you fall in love with a pair and feel the need to buy it, follow these tips to deal with tightness.
To make uncomfortable shoes softer and better-fitting, try to practice wearing them at home. You should walk around in the pair of shoes at least 15 to 20 minutes per day. Try putting on thick socks to guarantee that they stretch faster.
Take the pair to a shoemaker’s studio. The expert will know how to stretch shoes gently, without harming the material and changing the shape. This tip is especially applicable if the shoes you are having problems with are made of natural materials like leather and suede.
Believe it or not, you can also use your freezer to deal with uncomfortable shoes. Fill a nylon bag with water, tie it tightly to avoid leakage. Put a bag in each shoe and place the shoes in the freezer. When it freezes, water expands, making uncomfortable shoes stretch. Keep shoes in the freezer for 24 hours at least.
Special sprays are designed to widen shoes and to make them softer and more comfortable. You can find such stretching products in most shoe stores. Sometimes these sprays could be expensive but their ingredients effectively deal with rude materials and tight shoes.
Shoe seams could also cause discomfort and could result in wounds. Use your regular handcream or body lotion and gently rub it in the area that causes discomfort. This should make the material softer.
Band aids will help you in dealing with the pain and preventing wounds from occurring. Always put band aid on the specific spots before walking in new or uncomfortable shoes.
If the heels of your shoes are too high, take them to a shoemaker’s studio for replacement. A shoemaker will be able to put on shorter heels without ruining the looks of your fine shoes.
Keep in mind that in some cases, uncomfortable shoes cannot be fixed. Never wear shoes that cause pain and discomfort. You could end up having surgery, if you continuously wear small and tight shoes. If all stretching efforts fail you should give up on the pair. The option is much better than causing yourself permanent damage.
